El paraiso constituye uno de los sitios arqueológicos más antiguos de la costa peruana que fue construido aproximadamente alrededor del 2000 a.c. y esta conformada 8 unidades arquitectónicas o grupos de construcciones. Los investigadores afirman que se trata de un antecedente de los denominados templos en U que se desarrollaron en la costa central desde el valle de Lurín hasta el valle de Supe y esta constituido por dos largos montículos que encierran un espacio central de 170x500m, que constituyó la plaza ceremonial del complejo y por varios edificios situados en el extremo sur del conjunto.
En ambos brazos del conjunto, que son de tamaño distinto y forma irregular se hallan restos de construcciones identificandose las del lado derecho con las viviendas de la época. El brazo (unidad IV) tiene 450x100m y el izquierdo (unidad II)200x120m siendo la altura promedio de ambos aproximadamente 3m.
De los tres edificios de índole religiosa que se encuentran al extremo sur del conjunto el edificio más importante es el Edificio I que fue restaurado por Frediric Engel en los 60′s. Este edificio de 6m de alto se eleva sobre un juego de terrazas pétreas (rellenas con piedras de adobe, shicras, cenizas y basura) en cuya plataforma superior de 40x46m se ubica recintos, patios, corredores y escaleras organizados en varios núcleos y teniendo como elemento principal el atrio o recinto A12. Este se trata de un cuarto cuadrangular de 12x12m que presenta en su parte central un espacio rectangular por debajo del nivel del piso del recinto a manera de patio hundido. Este patio se complementa con cuatro pozos circulares esquineros probablemente destinados a la ofrenda.
Todas las paredes presentan las caras planas al exterior y se constituyeron con bloques mas o menos rectangulares de 30x15cm. Bloques más grandes se colocaron en las esquinas de los accesos y muros.
El material es una caliza, un sedimento marino con granos finos que contienen fósiles antiguos. Estos bloques se habrían sacado a golpes de las canteras vecinas ubicadas en el cerro colindante la unidad D1.
Existen muros continuos y paralelos que llegan hasta los 2.50m de espesor al respecto se debe señalar que el sistema de construcción de este muro presenta cuatro caras: 2 exteriores y 2 interiores con una cara de relleno de piedras entre ellos.
